A Note From Surf Shack
As you embark on your Maui adventure, we invite you to experience the island with aloha and respect.
Please drive with aloha, slow down, soak in the beauty, and if someone’s in a hurry, kindly pull over when safe and let them pass. And drivers, please no whale watching while driving! For your safety and the safety of others, please focus on the road and use the scenic overlooks, or stop at a beach, to experience the whale breaches.
If you see a sign with “Kapu” (prohibited or sacred), please stay away. These signs may indicate private property, danger or a culturally significant area in which an invitation may be necessary. You may also see signs with “Kapu” in Lahaina Town around land impacted by the devastating wildfires. Empty land may have previously been a family home which can be deeply hurtful if used as a parking lot
By supporting local businesses, you’ll be helping to sustain our vibrant community and enrich your stay. Consider visiting farmer’s markets and craft fairs as well and take home a special, possibly one-of-a-kind, keepsake.
We also ask for your kōkua (help) in caring for our ʻāina (land). Use reusable water bottles to reduce waste (if you’re staying at a Surf Shack property, we provide filtered water) and always pick up after yourself, leaving no trace behind. Together, let’s mālama (care for and protect) this sacred land so that your experience, and that of future visitors, remains unforgettable.
